Commodore’s Pre-Season Letter

As I looked out across the frozen Sakonnet River this morning I thought about the fact that in four short months we will be sailing in the first Twenty Hundred Club event of the season.  Tiverton Yacht Club has once again stepped up to the plate and will be hosting the annual Twenty Hundred Club Around Aquidneck Island Race.  This race will be held on June 27th and will be followed by a social event at the Tiverton Yacht Club.  The traditional hors d’oeuvres contest will be held.   BBQ and refreshments will be served.

This summer the Cuttyhunk Race returns.  On July 11 after a three year absence the Twenty Hundred Club will reestablish the Cuttyhunk Race.  Starting in Newport this race was always a favorite.  The Block Island Race will be held August 8-10 followed by the Prince Henry Race on August 29.  The final race of the season will be Fall Race around Prudence Island on September 19.  This year the Fall Race will be hosted by Quonset Davisville Navy Yacht Club and will also be followed by a social event.  Further details will be forthcoming.

The Twenty Hundred Spring Shore Party will be held on April 11 at the Bristol Yacht Club.  After the fantastic meal that once again will be provided by Daves Marketplace we will proceed with nominations and elections of your executive board.  We will end the evening with the presentation of awards from the 2014 season.  Please log into the Twenty Hundred Club website to purchase tickets prior to April 1.

The annual business meeting of the Twenty Hundred Club was held in December.  At this meeting a membership dues increase of $20 was proposed and implemented for the 2015 season.  This increase in dues was due to the increased cost of insurance for the club.  With the return of the Cuttyhunk Race and the continuation of the Around Aquidneck Challenge, club membership continues to be a bargain.  In addition to our 5 Primary races we will continue to post results from the Aquidneck Island Challenge as they are reported.  For those of you not familiar with the Aquidneck Island Challenge, last season we began posting Aquidneck Island circumnavigation times.  This challenge can be completed at a time of your choosing and as often as you like.  Unlike the Around Jamestown Record Race there is no per attempt fee and entry is included with your Twenty Hundred Club membership.

Lastly, this season we will be experimenting with the use of RaceQs.  Participants are encouraged to use Race Qs at www.raceqs.com to self-report your race. A free account for your boat is required. A free iOS or Android app is required.  RaceQs will be available to upload data and view a participant replay for each race.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the Spring Shore Party.

Sincerely,

Gregg E. Morash
