Now is the time to register for this year’s Twenty Hundred Club racing! We are hosting six unique events in the bay this season. First is the Around Aquidneck Race, co-sponsored with Tiverton YC, on June 27th. The course runs from Hog Island south and around Aquidneck, up the Sakonnet with a beautiful finish off of Tiverton. Postrace is hosted by TYC. After that we are bringing back a perennial favorite after a hiatus of a few years — the Cuttyhunk Race. Scheduled for July 11th, the course is from Rose Island to Cuttyhunk. August has two events on the calendar – the Block Island Race and the Prince Henry Race. The Block Island race weekend this year is August 8-10. The outbound leg runs on the 8th, from Rose Island to New Harbor entrance; Sunday is a layday and the return race is the 10th going from New Harbor back to Rose Island. Prince Henry runs August 29th. This unique navigation race has no peer in the region, a true test of both sailing fast and using the environment and your navigation skills to rack up the most corrected miles in a specified time. Multiple start points in the bay ease the logistics challenge with all competitors finishing at Wickford Harbor. The Fall Race Around Prudence, September 19th, wraps up the scheduled races, starting and finishing off of Pine Hill Point. A postrace event is in the works. Running throughout the year is the Around Aquidneck Challenge. Back in its second year, this event is continuing to gain interest. Competitors circumnavigate Aquidneck Island in the fastest corrected time. You select the date and time of your attempt, start/finish point and even the direction of rounding. Tiverton Boat Basin is a no-race zone, allowing either a pause for food and refreshments or a more strategic break for different winds and currents. Boats may extend this pause for up to 24 hours. As unique as the Prince Henry Race, the Around Aquidneck Challenge requires a broad range of skills to log a competitive time.

Lastly, the Around Aquidneck Race with TYC is just a few weeks away. If you are planning on racing it, please note we advanced the start time slightly to help produce favorable currents both down the bay and up to Tiverton. Refer to the SI for more details. And don’t forget the hors d’oeuvres contest. Be sure to bring something to share for everyone while downing your favorite Dark and Stormy, Margarita, or Painkiller. Your entry doesn’t have to be fancy but there will be prizes!
