Saturday, August 23rd saw a great day for sailing around the bay and racing an epic Prince Henry the Navigator Race. 15 boats enjoyed a sporty south-westerly, sunny weather and a busy bay to complete the race. Returning for a 2nd win in two years – Slim Shady (McClintock/O’Brien) bested the Spinnaker class while Pegasus (Walker) squeaked out a win over Anoesis by only 0.19NM corrected. Full results.
9am saw boats starting at 3 of 7 possible starting locations around the bay, then assembling their course from approved legs to then traverse the furthest corrected distance while finishing off of Quonset in the approved finish window – 3-3:30pm (no penalty) and 3:30-4pm (carrying a distance penalty).
A good indicator on how favorable the conditions were for sailing is that most of the boats did not even use their allowed 30 minutes of engine time during the race.
